Course Overview

Ontario Beauty College is zealous about the cosmetic beauty industry, and we are excited to offer the Medical Spa Specialist Diploma program. It has been intentionally designed to offer the beauty passionate student real-life working knowledge using a variety of products, advanced skincare applications, laser and IPL based technologies, radio frequency techniques, advanced peels, dermaplaning and microneedling techniques in our on-site medispa clinic at the college.

Course Objective

Upon successful completion you will be able to perform a variety of technology-based services in a medispa, laser clinic, dermatology clinic and advanced skincare spa. The professional graduate will be able to join a booming industry that is filled with many rewarding career opportunities, offering great financial compensation plans happily working as a medical spa specialist.

Prerequisites

Grade 12 or Mature Student Status (18 years +) with passing score on Wonderlic Personnel Test Form A Metric.

Graduation Requirements

Student must obtain a 70% overall average with no grade less than 60% in all examinations, to be awarded the Diploma 

Adopted Textbook:  Milady’s Standard Advanced Esthetics

Course Length: 22 weeks (550 hours) – full-time Monday – Friday 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Skincare Fundamentals (4 weeks)

  • Anatomy and physiology

  • Professional image

  • Sanitation and sterilization methods

  • Skin typing and skin conditions

  • Disorders and diseases

  • Skincare products (Eve Taylor) consultation medical history and consent forms

  • Variety of facial equipment (steamer, high frequency, ultrasonic, galvanic)

  • Variety of facial treatments and techniques

  • Relaxation facial massage techniques (Swedish massage, lymphatic drainage massage)

Advanced Skincare (3 weeks)

  • Skin nutrition

  • Skincare product knowledge

  • Essential oils and aromatherapy (Eve Taylor)

  • Cosmetic ingredients (Image Skincare)

  • Advanced skin assessment and analysis using VISIA

  • Customized facial

  • Acupressure and lymphatic drainage facial massage techniques

  • Introduction to oncology skincare protocols

  • Skincare product knowledge

Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peels (2 weeks)

  • History of exfoliants

  • Assessing client suitability

  • Indications and contraindications

  • Understanding wound healing

  • Microdermabrasion and other methods of advanced exfoliants

  • Introduction to a variety designer chemical peels

  • Delivery of microdermabrasion and chemical peel treatments

Microneedling, Dermaplaning & OxyGeneo (2 weeks)

  • Indications and contra-indications

  • Dermaplaning procedure and protocols

  • Collagen Induction Therapy (MCIT)

  • Microneedling with eDermaStamp device

  • Microneedling with RF POTENZA

  • OxyGeneo protocols

  • Client assessment and waiver forms

  • Perform a dermaplaning, microneedlling and OxyGeneo treatment

  • Pre and post-treatment recommendations

Cosmetic LASER Theory and Applications (4 weeks)

  • Introduction to laser theory

  • Laser physics and terminology

  • Skin typing (Fitzpatrick Scale and Lancer Ethnicity scale)

  • Client consultation and waiver forms

  • Pre and post-treatment recommendations

  • Introduction to other laser technologies

  • Laser hair removal (Diolaze)

  • Photo facial for pigmented and vascular lesions (Lumecca)

  • Fractional and skin resurfacing and acne scarring (Fractora)

  • Body contouring and cellulite reduction (Body Fx)

  • Skin tightening face and neck (Forma)

  • Skin tightening body (Forma Plus)

  • Introduction to laser tattoo removal (Picosure)

Clinic Operation & Job Coaching (4 weeks)

  • Review of clinic daily operations and professional protocols

  • Review of daily performance expectations during clinic hours

  • Client service and retention

  • Client booking using the Insight software system

  • Performing all services on clients in accordance with industry standards

  • Promoting series of treatments to achieve desired results

  • Demonstrate responsibility, leadership and accountability

  • Marketing and retail product sales

  • Present your “medispa business plan”

  • Career opportunity and interview preparation

  • Online job search using a variety of applications
